Don't see why he wouldn't. If there is some reason not, one of us in the lower 48 could relay them up to you.

looks like the 231 swap would be a lot cheaper and give you the option to go with real gearing like 4:1.

Yes, but its a trade off with pro's and cons to both. The pros are that you can swap in the crawler gears and be ready to go. Cons are not as much reduction and no SYE.
On the other hand With the 231 swap you have to get new drive shafts fabricated, fabricate new shifter linkage etc. If you factor in the cost of a Slip yoke eliminator kit, custom drive shafts, and the 4 to 1 Terra low you've already exceeded the price of the aussie gear kit, but in the end can have a better product with custom shafts SYE and 4 to 1.
I'm still not sure which direction I want to go. For my SR which will probably never see a SAS I'll go with the aussie gears. With my 89 which might see a SAS one day the slip yoke in the front will eventually have to go. Scrounging for deals for 231's with the SYE already installed may be the wayt to go.

Used Np231: $100-200?
SYE kit: $250
Terra 4 to 1 Kit: $1120.00
Custom Drive Shafts: $250 (Conservative estimate)
Custom shift linkage: probably could be done for minimal price with Junkyard parts.
The aussie gears at 1100 arent so bad. Maybe if you just put in the 231 with the stock gearing (2.7 to 1?)and SYE, wheel it like that first it would lighten the blow on the pocket book a little. You could always add the 4 to 1 kit at a later time. The Stock 231 would give a nice reduction over stock. If you could find a used case with the SYE already installed that would be the most cost effective, still taking into account the custom driveshafts.
Just things to consider. To get to the real serious mods it int cheap.

Custom Drive Shafts: $250 (Conservative estimate)
Local driveline shops IF you can find them will be cheaper, but this is a seriously conservative estimate. My Driveshafts are the single most expensive thing in my entire rig. They're woods, but hey... Sometimes its a good idea to go for the best. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I had my front drive shaft shortened at a local driveline shop when I did my front diff-swap. It cost me $100.

Yes, however, reportedly it varies between trucks. I don't remember who it was, but one person had to have theirs shortened by .75", another by .80". Mine had to be shortened by 1.5". Back on topic, as I mentioned above, the 2.85 gears are quite effective and ARE real crawler gears. Whenever I'm out trailing with local Jeeps, I'm usually crawling along at the same pace as those with modified crawl-ratios. Haven't had to brake or de-clutch for any of them when I'm behind 'em. As I've said before, in light of the vast amount of performance mods I've done to my truck, I consider these gears to be the best mod among them.
