disassemble the stock ECU case and put the starion guts inside?

Yes. You have to grind/saw/dremel one of the connector holes bigger/wider. I have not tried it with an 87 ecu, but I think it will fit. Makes mounting the ecu a lot easier.

My 87 donor had an 89 ECU in it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I took the cover from the Quest and the guts and mounted to the Monty's base. This was a simple matter of JB for a couple of the hold-down posts on the inside, and a couple lined up as is IIRC. Maybe had to drill a new hole in the side of the cover for the screws to hold it on.

Either way is likely easier that trying to get the Quest ECU base to bolt under the Monty dash.

For the grommet on the harness-through-firewall, I used the die grinder to enlarge mine. Tried to muscle it in first, but had too much trouble and was worried about it wrinkling and not being weather tight enough.

Damn that was fun back then working on it... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Fun? I sure thought so...

It is kinda like raising kids.

You set out with a plan. Along the way, the truck has a way of changing the plan all on it's own. You change the truck, and the truck changes you.

"Look round our world; behold the chain of love
Combining all below and all above.
See plastic Nature working to this end,
The single atoms each to other tend,
Attract, attracted to, the next in place
Formed and impelled its neighbour to embrace.
See matter next, with various life endued,
Press to one centre still, the general good.
See dying vegetables life sustain,
See life dissolving vegetate again:
All forms that perish other forms supply
(By turns we catch the vital breath, and die),
Like bubbles on the sea of matter borne,
They rise, they break, and to that sea return.
Nothing is foreign: parts relate to whole;
One all-extending, all-preserving soul
Connects each being, greatest with the least;
Made beast in aid of man, and man of beast;
All served, all serving: nothing stands alone;
The chain holds on, and where it ends, unknown."

Now where else on the internet can you get tech advice AND Alexander Pope???
