I'm lookin to buy a 22re and was gonna find a place to buy a reman'd engine......would a brand new one be the better way to go?

i believe they said the new engines only have a 1 year unlimited mile warranty

HELP!

I think this is the one he's talking about - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bran...itemZ350030177791QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

If it is truly all brand new and quality parts, then to me it's a heck of a deal. But the old saying about getting what you pay for makes me wonder...

I would think BRAND NEW they'd be closer to $3K and a better warranty. I don't believe Toyota is casting anymore of these, so take the 'brand new' with a couple grains of salt.

FWIW, if asking, there is a difference between being rebuilt and being remanufactured. The first is a parts swap and the latter is machined and refitted.

Call around to your local machine shops and get an estimate to turn your engine, and THEIR warranties. At least that way you can lean across their counter if there's any problems.

Welcome to the board!

My guess is they are leftovers form stock needed for warranty repairs and replacements, etc.. I bet Toyota sold all the old stock off to the highest bidder.

thanks for the responses guys....

I've found deals through Oreillys and Advance for reman'd 22re motors for around $1600-1700 and with O'reillys they offer a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty, i think Advance was offering either 18 or 24 months.....are these typical prices?

>>>*I scrounged Toyota dealerships a few years back looking. No luck at all, I came up with not in production.

I spotted some new blocks popping up over the last few months, some tagged as Topline. Since I happen to have a Topline distributor account, I contacted my rep.

They had six new engines in stock, all sold and they discontinued them. Blocks bought out from an overseas supplier, filled with Topline parts. I asked if they were going to get more, or some emptys??

They said no. So I hunted some more, some said "new" and "factory"...Remember that there are lots of "factories", that doesn't mean Toyota. So far if someone claims "Toyota" they would be....fibbing.

At least as far as I can find and I been looking. *Might be some sitting dusty in a stockroom somewhere, not many if so.

I found the new block source, took awhile. I was thinking GREAT! Possible new market, good cores are a real PIA.

We decided to stay with trying to find good cores, the good folks need a more accurate ruler.

It seems there is a learning curve going on again, and they ain't "Japanese"...But give it some time, they will work it out I suppose.

That is what happened with the "clearenced" Chevy stroker cranks we ended up with a dozen of a few years back. $300 later each to finish them up enough to use and they worked OK. Except for three we threw away. We can balance grams, even an ounce or two, but POUNDS?...*LOL**...Now Scat supplies them, they are OK, problems fixed..The blocks will get fixed in time, too, but we will wait.

I will be blunt. This is as nice as I can be on this one right now....*Wish I could say otherwise, a boxcar load of good new blocks would be about right for us..I figure 5-6 months, heck, maybe even already?.....Just MHO...Hope so, it's a possible cool market!.....*EB

Wait, isn't there a Chinese manufacturer making knockoff 4x4 pickups and 4Runners? I remember a comment about that from a while back.

>>>*When I take a look at the government's trade imbalance I think there is a Chinese knockoff on EVERYTHING!

Let's face it, there are some items coming in from China that are perfectly good products. I would much prefer to see Americans making products but some items there is now no other source.

The corporate heads can count, 6 bucks from China or 20 bucks from the USA, guess who makes the part?

I can't fix that by myself, so even at wholesale I see competition clipping my prices by 20-30% and more.

Way it is.

What burns me up is when the product ISN'T good, and it's being sold anyway. We went through THREE staple guns from ACE, I asked them why the he** are they selling these things, they don't WORK!!

All they did was look at me.

*Then like when I go to clip my dang toenails, and the handle on the clippers bend before the nail will clip?

Just great, they barely make a dent. I threw a fit at Walmart, NONE of them that they had would work at ALL!

I am not real sure I can go back there.... ...

He** with it, in the trash can with those and I go grab my Stanley knife??

Yep. Blades made in China.... ...*EB

I called the number listed in the Japanengines ebay listing and asked where they were made. I was told the engines are assembled in the US but the parts are all made in Taiwan or China. I wonder if the parts are excellent quality, for instance, is the crank made of forged steel?
It's a good price, but I wonder about longevity.
