Interestingly I just pulled the heads off my 91 without pulling the manifolds. Once the head bolts are loose, you can lift the heads off of the dowel pins and then just slide them towards the center of the engine right off of the manifolds. If you assemble using same method, take extra care not to damage the head gaskets.


Hope fully that will work for me too.
Also what size sockets are the head bolts? I don't have a hex socket that size and can't really bring the engine with me to the hardware store.
