Getting the Wheeling Fever
how's it going. I noticed my the Monti is leaking a lot of oil. I just had the oil changed at a Jiffy Lube, but even before I took it to Jiffy Lube i had already noticed quarter coin size spot of oil. After the Jiffy changed the oil the, the oil leak got much bigger and has slowly progressed. I finally had a chance to crawl under and check, and it looks like the leak is coming from mechanism to which the oil filter is attached too. There are two points on this mechanism, one on top and one on bottom which which look like they can be tightened with a wrech, which I tried but no luck. I can't tell if the leak is from the oil filter itself, or any of the lines in the immediate area of where the oil filter is located. Any suggestions, before I take to the mechanic? I took it back to Jiffy Lube but they told its not the oil filter.

There are 3 bolts holding the oil filter adapter. There is a gasket between the 2 parts that could be leaking. It also could be leaking from above the adapter - head gasket or valve cover gasket.

thanks FrankR. I returned to Jiffy to have them double check the filter, and I should have known better then to let them check, they immediately denied any wrong doing, not that I blamed them for anything! They also said it was the power steering fluid, and that's when I knew they were crazy. I took my truck out of there and will take it to my mechanic tomorrow. Wish me luck that its not going to be an expensive repair!!

NEVER EVER go to jiffy lube. I wouldnt trust those idiots to wash my car much less change my oil. They rather hire people with no experince to do the job. In that case just find some homless man, pay him 15 bucks to change your oil then your good deed is done bye helping the homless.

Thanks, a lesson well learned!!!! My Monty is currently with my mechanic and it's not going to be a cheap repair to say the least. oil cooling lines need replacement, as well as seal/gasket for the oil filter housing. You know I am not mechanic and I have good luck with this mechanic. So I bit the bullet and gave him the "OK" to move forward with the repair.

yeah whether is was jiffylube's fault or not, definitely don't take your car there. My parents go there but I won't let them touch my car, I do all my own oil changes and as much of my own repairs as possible.

Make sure you get the metal washer gaskets and the banjo bolts for the cooler lines. I did this repair, several times recently. Had I got this stuff to begin with, it would have been one and done. Like you said... Lesson learned

well I got the Monty back. So far so good! I parked it in the garage and placed a piece of cardboard under the truck. I'll check it tomorrow morning, and I hope like hell there is NO oil leak! This was a very expensive repair, and after the mechanic showed me exactly what he did, i was telling myself damn it if I only knew more I could have done this on my own and saved a lot of money. When I went to pick it up this afternoon, he said it was ready, and then all of sudden he pointed out another oil leak near the oil filter housing which he said was not leaking previously. The entire area was clean, he showed me the reciepts from the dealer for the parts, and he said WOW, I shouldnt let you leave with this leak, this is one leak we didn't see initially. The additional cost to repair the leak was $50 bucks. He also pointed out that my radiator was leaking from the bottom of the radiator. He said that he didn't know how bad the water leak was and it was up to me to fix now or later. I said later! How difficult is it to replace the radiator? I then drive the truck home only to notice the oil pressure gage is not moving. So i call him when I get home and Im taking it back tomorrow morning. He said "oops, I think we forgot to connect the oil pressure monitoring line/sensor, or whatever it is that causes the needle to monitor the oil pressure". Oh well!

it's alot less difficult to do it now...not later.
Sounds like a good project if you want to get your hands dirty.

i would start by wiping down the area to identify the exact location of the leak (might just be the hose). Then if it is really tiny holes in the radiator, patch them with puddy until you find a replacement part.

Holes are probably caused by something... acid from old coolant eating it up, or soft radiator rubbing on hard steel... so fix the cause and the symptom

Jiffy Lube did not replace my differential filler plug last time I was there In my opinion they are the worst
