So, My beloved little Beagle, doing what she does best, found a skunk..

She got sprayed.

Her eyes, and nose seem to be fine..but..WOW she stinks!!

I've bathed her a couple times last night, she still stinks..bad.

I know there is something like, Tomatoe juice, or vinager, or something of the sort that does the trick, but I can't seem to remember for the life of Me.

I KNOW one of y'all HAS to know!

my dad used to get rid of skunks for my grandparents when they would get under the house, and just about every time, he would get sprayed. we would soak his clothes in tomato juice, unless it was white, then we used vinegar. for him, he would get in the shower, and pour vinegar on him self, then shower. he would do this until he smelled normal

Mythbusters did an episode on this subject, but can't recall what they said worked best. I know they said tomato juice worked alright, and I think vodka worked ok as well.

Try a concentrated odor remover (Scent-B-Gone, etc).

or I've also heard to try "Simple Green" in a squirt bottle. Squirt it on, work it in a bit and hose it off.

Good luck.

Any emulsifying shampoo works - what you need to do is lift the oil out of the dog's coat. If you do not have emulsifying shampoo, use Dawn dishwashing liquid.

Tomato juice and/or sauce does not work - just masks the smell a bit. Although your dog may start going wop! wop! wop! instead of barking, cos s/he will smell like a bowl of pasta or a pizza.

I have heard that water intensifies the smell and that you should only use water after you use something else to get rid of the oils. I always keep a bottle of Skunk-Off on hand just in case we get sprayed. I have had two close calls, so I know it will happen someday. Both times, the dog was nose to nose with the skunk with me on the other end of a leash only six feet away Luckily neither skunk decided to spray.

My friend had an encounter with a local skunk. They tried Skunk Off along with a couple of other commercial brands as well as home remedies like tomato juice and none really worked completely.
