I need to find a replacement front ring and pinion for my 92 montero sr, thing is its a 2nd gen with 4.875 and those are hard to come by, what other mitsu vehicle came with a 4.875 gear ratio, that i can find to swap into the ifs housing?

Thats going to be really hard to come by in the US I bet. You might have to get rid of your front IFS all together and switch to a straight axle <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

You might want to check car-part.com. Didn't see any R&Ps only, but there are quite a few carriers with 4.88 ratio.


1990 Monty LS 3.0 A/T LWB. KYB front shocks, OME rears and coils. 33x10.5 BFG Muds. 5.29, 2.85, RD110, RD46. 2 bouncys. Aisins. Monte Disco swaybar disconnects. GenII t-arms, idler arm, UCA's, V45W front brakes. 2in BL.

Where are you located. It shouldn't be that hard to find 92-93.5 SR in junk yard. You can technically also swap front diff from Montero Sport or Gen 3 with 4.9 ratio but that would involve more mods, you would need new axleshafts, etc. On the plus side you could fit front locker in there after that.

Is that the coil sprung rear that has the same size diff as the 3.5 Gen2's?

If so, how much do you want for the rear axle? I want those 4.90 gears, if it's cheap enough I'd be interested. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cyclops.gif" alt="" />
