I performed a long block on my 84 22r about 1000 miles ago. Since then the timing chain has been pretty noisy and I couldn't rotate the distributor far enough to reach 0 degrees TDC (top gear 1 tooth off) Today I pulled the timing cover to check all the variuos issues. Under inspection I noticed that the timing chain guide on the left (passenger side) has a very deep groove in it, after only 1000 miles mind you. I am thinking this must be due to the tensioner malfunctioning and not taking up the slack on the back side....anyone agree or disagree?
