I have the BFG All Terrains on a VW Westfalia camper, and I think they are great. Very good on road (even in the snow) and pretty good off road...although a 2wd vw camper isn't really a good test for them off road. No more road noise than my old all season tires.

I've also had a set of YOKOHAMA Geolander AT II's on my Mitsubishi and loved them. Very similar to the BFG All Terrain, and easily kept up with the BFG All Terrain which my buddy had on his truck.

There is a good reason why the BFG all Terrain is most common tire you see on the road on light duty trucks and SUV's.....because it's good! (and well marketed)

I agree with shorepig - the Yoko Geolandar A/Ts are really good tires both on the street and off road. They do very well in mud, snow and slush. I would't recommend them, however, if you plan on doing anything that takes you off a trail where you risk catching something in the sidewall. The BFG A/Ts would be a better choice in that case as they have heavier sidewalls. Unfortunately, the BFGs do suck in mud and slush and they're not that great in heavy rain either. Not working off of 'hear say'. I pull more people out of the snow and crud running BFG A/Ts then any other tire.
