Ok, I've got a question here. I've just picked up a 98 Monty ( my 93's about ready to take a crap on me )and am looking for an all terrain tire that will provide good traction off road but still be quiet enough to carry on a conversation on the road....I go off road a good bit but not like most of you guys. I use mine to get out in the boonies for hunting purposes. probably 85% - 90% of my use will be on road....just to get to where I want to get off road. Mostly dirt trails, fire roads or just across a bunch of land. Any reccommendations??
Thanks, Bill

BFG makes a great AT. They suck in the mud though. Very quiet on road.
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

I have Pep Boys Mud Terrains on the flat bed and they work as well as previous sets of BFG MTs; neither is my choice for the street. I have a new set of USA made house brand All Terrains ready to go on the Montero which will see duty similar to what you would propose. All it took was one panic stop on a wet road on mud tires to make a believer out of me that a higher tread to void ratio is better for street use.

Yeah, mud tires do get slippry on wet pavement. On the plus side, the high void space helps out in deeper spots. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

A friend of mine has Goodyear Silent armor A/T's on his TJ (31X10.5) They are smooth as silk on the road and do very well off road. Good in snow, and pretty good in mud too.

I have Bigfoot AT's on mine. They are they regular Bigfoot's, not any fancy names after it. They are nice and quite on the highway compared to the last set. The nice thing about them is the free rotation and balancing and they came with a hazard waranty for free.
