Need a Spot
Howdy,

I've just put together an article about essential items that should be included in any 4x4 kit:

http://www.4wdtraveller.com/2008/03/4x4-essentials-preparing-your-4x4-kit_10.html

This is a minimum list of what I think are the required items, but I'm wondering if I missed anything.

Any thoughts?

I think a first aid kit should be #13, listed on its own.

And also some sort of radio: a cb, or handheld.

Gun it and run it!

What this country needs is unemployed politicians.

You can use a hi-lift as a hand winch.
And a lot of gas money. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

If one is truly going 4-wheeling, #1 should be another driver in another vehicle appropriate for the trail.

And the emergency food should be something that is not only highly nutritious and keeps forever, but is also nasty-tasting. The reason is that it should always be there and if it tastes horrible to you then odds are that it will be there for you when you truly need it. Anything that is even a little satisfying is likely to get snacked-on at some point and may not be there when you really need it. This is what the Red Cross teaches in their Wilderness First Aid course.

I didn't see a tarp or blanket. I keep some garbage bags in my truck to keep things clean...picking up other people's garbage.

tin foil hat.

Or al-yoo-min-ee-yum for our British buddies.

Spare set of radiator hoses and a way to close off the hoses to the heater core.

For your tire patches, both rope types for plugging small holes in the tread area, and interior patches for bigger holes and holes on the side wall and where the side wall meats the tread. Tire irons or know how to use your other tolls for removing tires.

Misc bolts, nuts and washers for the sizes your vehicle uses, and get grade 8 so they can be used in high stress areas. A couples each size should do.

Tools so you can remove either drive shaft.

i agree with and carry everything on your list...i would also include a small multimeter...but it helps if you know how and where to use it... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
