Getting the Wheeling Fever
Ok, trying to pull the tranny out of my raider. I've got the input shaft clear of the clutch assy. And the front will drop, but the tail-shaft or whatever you would call it of the xfer case is above the rear cross member. I have no room to slide forward because I'll hit the back of the engine.....How the hell do I wrangle this thing out???

TIA
Mikhail

Move it back further. Take the console out, and remove the bolts holding down the transmission, and transfer case shifters on.

Then slide the trans and transfer case back far enough to get the input shaft to clear the motor, and get it all down.

I have it back as far as it will go. the input shaft is well clear of the motor, but the transfer case is above the cross member that the torsion bars go into. Basically the whole tranny/x-fer case assy. won't fit between the back of the motor and that cross member. I tried tilting it toward the motor, but the bell housing hit's the flywheel before I can move it forward. Also, all 4 bolts on the tranny cross member broke off trying to remove them on the pass side

Ok got it out, anyone have any idea how to go about fixing this tranny x-member issue? # of the 4 bolts broke on the pass side... heads snapped off so the studs are still in the holes. I really hate to weld it on there

Bad idea.

Drill them out. They are easy to get to.

Center punch them directly in the center, and start drilling. Use a small bit, and work your way up to a big one.

OR If you have a good welder, weld a head onto them.

PB Blaster them before you start drilling. When center punching, I whack the center punch a good couple times to help loosen the rust. I always liked using reverse rotation drill bits too. Often times after generous soaking in PB and by the second drill bit, the rust loosens and the bolt gets unscrewed by the drill bit. In your case though, if the bolts go all the way through, normal rotation bits may do the same and tighten them up and out of the body nut.
