Need a Spot
Well, I rolled my 2000 cherokee w/30000miles on it the other day. Unfortunately I only had liability insurance.
Does anyone know what I would run into if I were to cut out the firewall to swap this drivetrain into my Monty? I know this is MAJOR, but it looks like I could move the radiator forward, and with some F/W trimming, I think I could make it fit. The jeep has the 4.0l, AW4 and NP231 T/case. I know it's not the ideal swap, but since I returned to med school, funds are tight (nonexistant) LOL!
If I could shoehorn it in, the bottom end torque should be nothing short of amazing!
Thanks in advance!
C.J.

I don't think there's enough room for the jeep inline 6. V8's are major surgery and the 4.0L is a lot longer then any V8. Now the 5.2L...that could be an option! Also, is the Jeep a drivers side drop on the transfer case?

The tape measure is NOT my friend while looking into this LOL! It just seems that there is a lot of waste space between the grille aand radiator......plus if I cut into that firewall..... This is gonna be a trail only rig. I agree, there are MUCH, very much better swaps, but I'm a 40yo college student and that's what I have <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Any idea what would bolt up "fairly easily to the v4aw3 tranny? I don't mind making a plate for it.
Thanks for enduring my neurotic thoughts!

cut into that firewall

The Heater core, and stuff is right there, so I suppose you could cut all that out.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
The 5.9 is a monster, my cherokee will spin all 4 tires on dry pavement...of course it gets 4 gallons per mile, and yes, I know I typed gallons per mile. I don't think you'll fit the 4.0 in there without a LOT of work...the 5.2 really would be a better option.

Yea, my Dakota has the 5.9L. I average about 12mpg mixed hishway/city. Which is why I drive the Monty a lot more now since it's averaging 16-18. If you're just looking for something to do, the AllPar site states the 3.3L and 3.8L minivan (and later jeep 3.8L) engine have the same bell housing as the 3.0L. Try for a 3.8L (as the 3.3L's aren't very strong on the bottom ends).
