" A little help from my friends" have a 88 with a 4.2/5spd. I have read a lot on the ign upgrades, my query is on the coil and its ohm rating and how it will affect the ICM. I downloaded one paper from another site but struggle with understanding. Can anybody simplify an expanation..

Kirby I can give you some help. What a coil does is to build up voltage until enough is reached to jump a spark across the plug gap. The coil that comes on an engine will do zackly what is needed. ADDING a different coil may be a good idea if the engine has many modifications that will enable it to run at RACE rpm. However without changing the rpm range of the engine changing coils will do NOTHING for the engine..milage..or power.
If the coil is doing it's job...leave it alone.. another coil will do nothing for you.
