hi,

When my sportage reach 3000rpm-4000rpm there is a strange vibration I get the vibration even if im in neutral but its getting annoying when im on 5th and reach 3000rpm(100km/h). There is no vibration if I dont go over 3000rpm.
Also I noticed that the head gaskets started to leak few weeks ago.

Any ideas where the vibration come from?

Kia sportage 2000,DOHC 2.0L, 4 doors

My tire are properly balanced,I instaled 2 new needle bearings last week with new seal.

vibration is coming from the front but there is no vibration in my steering wheel. Its probably coming from the engine.

check the motor mounts, tie rods, and ball joints, are any of the pulleys bent ? is it 4 wheel drive and is it locked in 4 wheel ? I would have it aligned, they would tell you if any joints or rods are bad.

first thing- check to see if all your fan blades are still attached. mine got OOOLLLDDD and broke off just from centrifugal force. only other thing i can think is motor problem like valve timing is off or crank is out of balance. MAYBE a hub is locked and you're spinning the front cv's and driveshaft at highway speeds, causing vibes.

-Sorry,I forgot to mention that my hubs were replace with Warn manual hubs so I know when they are locked or not

-Yes, I recently replaced upper and lower ball joints on both side and my left tie-rod end + it was realigned after.
My motor mounts seem to be fine(I will have it checked to confirm)

-Thanks,I will check my fan blades tonight I hope that the fan is the problem... valve timing or crank out of balance sounds like...very expensive

I have been running with this strange vibration for over 1 year...If I have to spend a lot of money on this vibration I think I will continue and ignore it.. Its my DD and I rarely go on highway. When Im in town I usualy shift when I reach 3000rpm before vibration come)Anyway its not a violent vibration but just enough to be annoying.

thanks

+1 on the fan. Look for cracks and check for play. My fan was all together and LOOKED fine, but the bearing was shot and it would wobble up and down. Put an electric fan in off of a geo metro and man, does it ever run smooth now!

If you can't see anything on the fan, you could still test it by removing the fan belt for testing and see if you still have the vibration. Just don't run it for a long time. If vibration is gone, it would most likely be the fan, or a loose drive pulley.
Just my 2 cents. By your description, it is nothing in the drive train, because it does it in neutral.

If it ends up being the fan, go electric

i dont think that it would be missing any blades, as you would notice the vibration at any rpm level, a out of balance fan is a very violent vibration.

fan having play in it, would be more likely as rpm increases it would get worse as he fan speed picked up.

pop the hood with the engine in neutral, and pull your throttle to see if you can tell were it is coming from.
