I don't think it's "raw material" that's the problem as much as it is the refineries not being able to keep up with demand. I heard something like the refineries working above 100% capacity. The process of applying for a permit to build a new refinery is a very long and expensive process. IIRC. I think I heard last year or the year before that they had issued the first permit in a decade. Again, I don't remember exactly.

Just like Sparky said, its in the low $3 range here in SC. I live in NC, but work in SC, so I never dare fill up in NC.

Didnt they used to boycott (sp) gas back then in the 50s and 60's? I heard stories about gas stations (or whoever was in control of the pricing) wouldnt dare go up more than .10 cause everyone knew to boycott it and that would be enough to keep them in place for a while.

These days I've gotten chain e-mails and such of people setting a date X days from now saying to not go to the pump and pass the chain e mail along. But I never really hear of anything happening. If we could get everyone in the US to fill up before a certain date, I'm sure one day would criple the gas industry? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Sigh...here we go again.

Boycotting (whether it's not buying on a particular day or not buying from a particular distributor) does not work.

Let me repeat that part...DOES NOT WORK.

If you set a date not to buy gas, and everyone participates, what does everyone do? One of two things: 1) fills up before the date or 2) fills up after the date. To the distributor, it doesn't make any difference. They still sell their gas.

If you choose to boycott a particular distributor, and it's enough to cause them to have unplanned surpluses, guess what they do? Yep, they sell it to another distributor. They still get paid. Even without boycotts, distributors sell to each other all the time.

$2.96 here today. The one further down the road might be a couple cents cheaper, but I did not drive by.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.
