Need a Spot
I just recently did some work on my 92' Toyota and have a weird problem going on and need some ideas. One of the things I did was put new plugs and plug wires in it. About a month ago, it was missing real bad and I went out at night and cranked it up, and lo and behold it looked like a Walt Disney fireworks show going on under my hood. So I replaced all the plugs and bought new wires and replaced them as well. I also replaced the breather tube that goes from the intake to the air filter as it had a large hole in it that wasn't helping things. Viola! The truck was running the best it had since I'd bought it back in 98'! About a week a go, I noticed it missing again, this time only slightly, but a definite miss. Now, it is missing quite a bit again. I cranked it up in the dark again last night and sure enough, I've got 1 plug wire that's just glowing?! Can plug wires go bad that quick? I didn't get bargain basement one's but I also didn't get real expensive either. Has anyone ever seen this? Is there something I did wrong when installing them?

Thanks,
Duece

Is the arc happening near the plug itself, or near the distributor at all? Its always possible that the cap has a crack in it or something like that. I've had several that were cracked and I couldn't see it until I had it off the truck.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Check the routing of the plug wire. I've been told you want to watch for contact with the engine. I've even heard of arcing between plug wires and the block. I figure it could fail quicker if this was happening leading to your little light show and poor idle.

I agree. You won't believe the difference in quality between the best aftermarket to the standard toyota wire set. Pricey, but worth it if you are having ignition issues.
