I found other than thickening the oil or cleaning the passages, those additives are almost all the same. Lucas, STP, Generic, they all are temp fixes at best. I would say the most long term solution would be to clean the good ones and replace the bad ones. I am looking at about $135 from advance auto to replace mine. I would replace the ones in the Montero, but thats getting a gen3 3.8 anyways.
