Now, I interpereted the point of this trhead a little differently - the little problems that are common on these vehicles, that we see posts about all te htime and after awhile you come to expect them.
These are the little things that are clear failures in engineering (not just teh usual random old truck things) that somebody might not have anticiptaed 20 years ago.

For example, the crack in the passenger side dahspad that appears just to the right of the center console area. I have yet to see a vehicle w/o evidence of this happening. (due to the bolt stud underneath it btw).

Or the intermittent high beams from worn contact in the steering column console.

#1 common problem across all Toyota models dating way back has to be that at some point they will lose low speed on the heater/blower

Great example - mine's missing it too!

Others:
If you throw a rod bearing, it will be #2
Crappy contacts or worn motor in rear window
UNDERheating due to bad thermostat
hub cone washers stuck to all h$ll
Saggy rear leaf sprigs
etc etc

With 200+ Billion electrical parts, the world most complicated machine is inside your own skull.

Question Reality.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
E-brake sticks on if not lubricated every fall before winter. Steering column has a squeak and lots of front brake calipers to name a few. Still very hard to hurt this truck even if you try....tough

Havent tried the PIAA, but I did buy some $15/blade Michelin's that are the newer curved shape, and those still streak in the middle. I think theres something wrong with the wiper arm itself. Either the spring is weak or its bent. I'm going to price out a brand new arm at the dealer....wish me luck

Try this before buying a new arm. Bend the last three inches or so of the wiper arm down towards the windshield. You can usually do it with your hands then set the arm and blade back on the glass. This puts more pressure on the center of the blade and will take care of any 'light pressure spots' which usually causes streaking (if you don't have crappy blades).

I've had rust problems with my A-pillars since new. I finally cut the roof off a wrecked truck and need to get the pillars cut out and replaced.

Had to replace the heater blower motor resistor twice.

Rear window regulator needs to be lubed yearly to keep it working well.

After 285,000 miles, not really much to complain about!

I also had a # 2 rod knocking, pulled the oil pan, replaced the bearings, been running good for 2 years.

Seen a couple broken birfields in the pre 85 trucks. Bought longfields and have not had a problem since.

Seat belts do not retract.

Doors get bent up when 4 wheeling.

But I have seen a lot more jeeps broken down than Toys!!

I can't keep a license plate light in my 87 4Runner... Don't know why, but the bulbs rarely last more than a year.

Saggy butt. Got it.

Frozen door locks... Not the lock cylinder itself, but the linkage inside the door. I have yet to find the fix.

L/S HVAC vent refuses to stay open... Hit a bump... *click* goes the door slamming shut inside.

L/S wing vent window latch is wore slap out... I have a 10 cent euro piece in there to take in the slack.

Exhaust manifold leaking. Again.

Corrosion in wiring harness areas: Injector splice, Alternator charge circuit splices by battery.

Passenger window motor intermittent since I bought the rig 10 years ago.

Oh oh, vent window...
I had the same problem as you... then i realized my frame was rotten, and the seal was bad.
I replaced the frame and seal with no rusty parts from down south, and it works great (still lets water from a pressure washer in tho DOH....
