You just have to drill out the spot welds. Get a GOOD spot weld cutter (the kind that looks like a little hole saw) and take your time cutting. I took mine off recently. It wasnt that hard, you just have to be careful not to cut through both panels. I'm going to use nuts and bolts when I put it back on so that I can remove it easier. You could weld it back in place or use rivets.
