I'm new to to this wesite. Just bought a 1990 trooper with a 2.8 v6 and auto tranny, I believe it's a 4L30E. I would like to know if anyone out there knows if you can determine if you have a factory limited slip diff. from your VIN. If so which number would that be? Tried doing a search, the info is probably allready on this site somewhere but I didn't find it. Thanks for any input. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Welcome to the site..... short answer, no, not on the VIN.... but look at your build options code plate (engine compartment firewall?) for G80, that'll indicate LSD.

P.S. Theres a link to all the option codes for Troopers on "ITOG" ... main page no longer works and I've got the link on the other computer... will paste later.

Thank you Van, I checked the options plate and no G80. you wouldn't happen to know the gear ratio and wether ther is a shim installed on the ring gear? Original tire code is 9MV. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

Unless you happen to have a fairly rare Trooper, your axle ratio is 4.56.
If your rig has around 200K on the speedo, there is a pretty good chance that even if you have a LSD, it is now toast. The clutches wear out, and there are more cost effective ways of addressing the issue than rebuilding a worn out LSD.
