Second time in about six months that gear lube leaked from the transfer case. Configuration is auto trans, adapter case, t-case. There is a mount at the bottom of the adapter case that bolts to a crossmember. The mount is where the lube shows up. I don't see any lube that has leak down from the top of the adapter or t-case. Doesn't look like any leaks between trans and adapter mating surface or between adapter and t-case mating surface. It's just the mount on the bottom of the adapter that is covered in gear oil. I checked the fsm and couldn't figure out any possibilities. It seems like it has leaked these couple of times when we get in the truck cold and immediately (within 1/4 mile) get on the highway. I've clean the mount off and I'll keep an eye on it this week. Any other ideas?

Could this be blow back from the front pumpkin or axle seals? I have an intermittent leak from the rear seal on the t-case, maybe a sleeve would fix that.

There's a weep hole at the bottom of the adapter housing. If the rear seal on the transmission or the input seal on the transfer case leaks, it weeps out this hole. Gear lube indicates the transfer case.

Another possibility is the t-case shifter assembly could be leaking higher up on the t-case and running down the front of the t-case.

Cleaning it up and watching it is a good thing to start with. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I wondered if there is something like a weep hole there. Makes sense because it is only the mount that has gear oil on it, everthing else around is dry (except where the leaked oil blew all over the place). I wonder if immediately getting on the highway builds up pressure too quickly and causes the leak? So, does the adapter case have any fluid in it?

Nope, the adapter should be dry and is open to the atmosphere via the weep hole.

The t-case shouldn't be building up pressure unless the vent on the topside is plugged.
