Another dumb question, can you swap a dana 44 axle from a similar year rodeo into a 1990 trooper? The reason I ask is there are so many more choices of differentials(and cheaper priced) for the danas. Thanks again. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

you can, but it won't be entirely plug n' play. for starters, the rodeo D44 will be a tad bit wider than the early troopers, so I don't know if spring perchs line up. most rodeo D44s are 4.10/4.30 and troopers are 4.56, so you'll have to be careful about gear mismatch. And you'll have to work out the parking brake cable attachment.
its a worth while swap to look into, just be aware there will be some little quarks that need attention.

You may or may not have to address the driveline length too. I think the D44 is close, but...drivelines don't stretch or shrink very easily, especially since there is a carrier bearing in the middle of yours.
PS, you do know there is an ARB and an Aussie Locker available for your 12-bolt, right? What exactly are you looking for in the D44? You are even limited in gears because of the front 10-bolt.
Good Luck, Michael

the rodeo spring perches are wider and will need to be repositioned. The e-brake cables are quite a bit different as well. I have one installed in the Jalopy and those were the major issues.
1987 trooper LS.'94 3.2, SAS,35's , lots of dents and rust. Now, improved, with more dents. 1995 trooper LS. Wife won't let me improve this one. 1996 trooper. I'll need something to modify when the '87 finally rusts away.
