Just special ordered and recieved a pair of Monroe matic shocks plus for the front. These things have the rod exposed to pick up sand and scratches and have no boots. I've had some gabreils ( all can contained)on there for about ten years so the age and the slight crank of the t bars I figured it was time. How do they expect these to last on a vehicle exposed to the elements?

Probably exactly why most people here recommend either KYB or Bilstein. I think Rancho and one other Japanese origin brand name has been mentioned too, but I havent seen one person here ever recommend Monroe.
Bought Bilsteins myself, just waiting for a good weekend to install them in the next month or so. Nice boots. Look almost too nice to install!
If you have a receipt, I'd return the Monroe's.
Just my .02, which nowadays with price of metals is actually worth .05!

I get most of my stuff off the net nowdays. Selection's better, usually don't have to pay sales tax. With gas at $3.50 a gallon, even when you do have to pay shipping it almost evens out.
x2 on autopartswarehouse for KYB's. $80 for a set of gas-a-justs to your door.

My avatar was filmed shortly after installing Monroe shocks.. I put the same ones on my montero. I will say though, after replacing all my bushings on that montero it rode like new and felt great onroad with those shocks. Forget offroading with them <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />

Love my Bilsteins...
Little more expensive, but worth it IMHO. Think I paid $140 delivered from Eshocks.com IIRC.

Mine had brand new Napa shocks on it in the fall when I bought it, currently three are blown out and one is bent at about a 45 degree angle and sitting in my basement. I'm stuck between Rancho, KYB, and Bilstein. I wouldn't go monroe though.

I took them back...
Arn't rancho and pro comp made by monroe???
Also could someone give me the KYB part # for front shocks. Kragen can get twp #s. Both gas and gas adjustable.
My Ranchos on the rear are 5000s, they are just oil , no gas. What's better?
