 4Runner Coils--OK??

Getting the Wheeling Fever

I just replaced the rear shocks and coils on my 91 4Runner. I installed Performance Products 1" progressive springs and Doetch Tech MV-12 shocks. There's a noticeable improvement in the ride, and it doesn't bottom out like it did before. My concern is how the top 4 coils are pressed against each other (on both sides) The ride height is perfect, and it drives very nice...so, any concerns with the coils? That is the nature of a progressive coil spring, the closely spaced coils are the soft ones and the wider spaced ones are stiffer. So the soft ones have compressed. Suppose as long as the rider quality is OK, then they are working like they are designed to. Maybe contact PP and ask them if that is normal for that application.

Thanks Roger. Ya, it rides very good, but I'll still call PP and ask 'em. I've just never seen coils compressed together like that on an unloaded vehicle. May be no problem, but thought I'd ask. Thanks.

Yes, that is how that particular coil spring is designed to be. Perfectly normal.

same as above, doesnt look like there is any chance they could bind up at full compression.
