Roll Me Over
It has been a long winter (6" snow predicted for today for chrissakes <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> ), but I finally got out and did some work on the Trooper. Fortunately this year no major work is needed, just a variety of small projects that are not critical to making the trek to Moab.

One thing that does need to get done, however, is fixing the ARB system. For some reason it started blowing fuses during the last trail run in January, and it is a bit of a mystery as to why. I have the mini-compressor with ARB wiring harness and switches etc.

The compressor itself seems fine, it runs and cycles normally without a problem. I also tried it with wires direct from the battery and it ran fine. But when I engage the locker switches, the lights on the switches go dim and eventually the fuse that I am drawing power from will blow. I tried unplugging the rear locker solenoid, and the same thing happened when I engaged the front locker switch. So I unplugged both solenoids, and no fuse blow even with the compressor cycling.

I ran the wiring harness but found no signs of insulation wear or damage.

This puzzles me because the solenoids are such simple devices...I can't see anything physically wrong with either of them. And the system ran fine all last year.

I'm going to call ARB, but if this sounds familiar to anybody, let me know!

It sounds like bad ground to me.

Yeah, but the ARB wiring harness only has one ground wire, and the compressor (on the same harness) is working fine.

After talking it over with the ARB tech, they are sending me a couple of new solenoids...nice of them, hopefully it does the trick.
