Body Damage is Cool
Hey guy's, I'm a tried and true Mitsubishi owner, and have the chance to pick up a 91 plain Jane Isuzu p/u, with the 4 banger and 5 speed. I live 100 mi from the truck, and plan to view it in the next couple of days.
A few ??: The previous owner claims that he towed the truck behind a motorhome, in neutral, w/ the transfer case disengaged, and accumulated 80K miles just towing it. (the truck has 180K on the odometer). Is this something that could be legit?
I'd like to know if the fuel mileage on these trucks is respectable.
Also, any <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />quirks that a newbie to these trucks needs to look for?
FWIW, I'm going to use it to commute 9 mi. round trip daily, and do mostly light trails, at least for now.
TIA, Paul in AZ

I had the 2x4 version and it was sturdy beast. Not over powered mind you, but it was able to keep ticking. The weak point on my '89 was the head which I had to have rebuilt three times. Another weak point was the frame. The rear rusted out like I had dipped it in acid. Respectable mileage? That depends on the brain/foot connection. I got 27 mpg on flat highway, but I'm the grandpa guy tooling along at five mph above the speed limit while everyone else rockets past me. It's real easy to maintain for the average mechanic. Carbon tends to build up in the throttle chamber and associated ports and the brake slide pintals on mine tended to seize causing the brakes to bind. Annual greasing stops that. I though it was a great little truck. Very reliable.

Thanks for the reply. I imagined that if taken care of properly, like any japanese truck, it should last.
