It seems like these are done quite often, especially on the gen1s. My question is: Instead of doing an engine swap and sometimes swapping drivetrains as well. Wouldn't it be easier and make more sense to just take the body and set it on the frame of something else? It seems like that'd be so much less work. Am I way off? Or is it pretty comparable? Figured that way it would just be remounting the body to a new frame and wiring everything up to the body. That to me seems to be so much easier, what am I missing?

It sounds easier and sometimes it is but things always come up that you never thought of. Most of the body on different frame conversions I have seen always look wierd and you can tell it is a frame swap. To look at mine it appears pretty normal until you look closer.

I figured that was one concern. Is that the main one? Our frames are probably a decent sum shorter than others arent they?

I contemplated doing a frame swap but I couldn't think of anything of similar dimensions that I'd want to swap to. There's a shortage of short wheelbase vehicles out there with 1-ton drivetrains. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" />
