Greetings folks. I'm a long-time owner of a '95 Montero which is about to pass the 300,000 mile mark. It still works great and I absolutely love it.

I've already searched repeatedly for posts on this subject but haven't yet been able to cure the problem. I'm sort of losing it. I'd vastly appreciate some help on the subject.
The problem:

Phase 1: Overdrive, speedometer and odometer stop working simultaneousley. They then work intermittantly for a few miles then quit completely.
Phase 2: I replaced the vehicle speed sensor. All items work intermittantly for about 20 miles, then quit completely.
Phase 3: I checked this forum. I cleaned and checked the coolant temperature switch. No change.
Phase 4: I pull out some hair, then post this message.
Phase 5: Go enjoy the warm weather while eagerly awaiting informed replies.

I appreciate your efforts to help with this problem. Getting only 16MPG is getting REALLY old.
