On reflecton, I think there are two vss's, one on the tailshaft of the tcase front output shaft, rearward side of the case, for 4wd detection? gen 1 had one there...

Then I think there is a second one on the tcase rear output shaft, a 4pole pulse generator. It provides inputs for the speedo, odo, and TCM which controls o'd function, a likely culprit.

I just replaced the one on the drivers side of the tcase. little stubby thing that screws on had a shaft that goes into the tcase that the tcase turns. Im assuming its the four pole pulse generator you mention but unfortunately it didnt work... the mitsu electrical pdf mentions this as the vss(sub) and the vss(main) its saying is somewhere on the intake manifold. this is on page 213 of montero_fsm_1992-1995_electrical.pdf. However I cant find that on any warehouse site to buy so if it is the problem idk what to do about it. Maybe the junkyard? I pulled out my cluster as well and didnt notice anything out of the ordinary. I need do as ataki did and check for a signal at the panel but im not entirely sure on how to go about it. Ill take a second look at the cluster. I also heard something about the water temp switch??
thanks a ton for the input everyone! I was thinking seriously in just parting it out! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />
