Need a Spot
That is the question isnt it. I hope it doesnt cause anymore issues. My next question is this:

[Linked Image]

it looks to me that the fault(white arrow) is in the red circuit caused by the yellow solder connection becoming too hot which is part of the blue circuit. (Im just using random colors here of course) Seems I need to solder the red connections back together via a piece of wire. (Is this what you did Ataki?) But im also worried about the blue circuit. what do you think?
here is the another clear foto

Probably the increased heat from the VSS signal when you're going more than 150mph. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I knew I was pushing it a little hard last time out! that is probably the very reason they only put 120 on the speedo.....

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Yep, That's exactly what I did. The blue area on your photo was fairly toasted on mine as well, But my meter showed continuity all along that path, so I didn't mess with it.
I just soldered a wire from the two solder joints in this photo:

I wish I had taken a photo after the repair, but I was in a hurry to get it put back together.

I went to the other connection because there was more room. you can see by my soldering I needed all I could get.

My odometer works
My overdrive works
Havent tried my cruise but Im sure it works now.

HOWEVER MY SPEEDO STILL DOESNT WORK...

I wonder Id it because I used the other connection? I dont believe it is because its the same circuit <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I probably overheated something in the process.

Any thought?

Also a tip for anyone wanting to do this

If you are at all worried about the appearance of your instrument cluster be careful not to touch the face of the speedo tach or anything behind the plastic. It absorbs the oil in your skin very easily leaving ugly smudges like mine here:

Body Damage is Cool
I've used q-tips dampened with alcohol to clean those pesky fingerprints off previously, but not on a Montero gauge face. Test a small hidden area of the gauge face first with some alcohol to make sure it won't damage the finish before you try cleaning the visible areas.

Sorry to hear you're still having problems. Don't feel bad, My solder job didn't look a whole lot better. Maybe you overheated one of the other paths on the board? If you have a meter, Try checking from solder joint to solder joint just to make sure you have continuity.

I tested everything and had continuity. I believe I either heated something or maybe crossed over a circuit. I took it back apart but couldnt see anything obvious. Atleast I have everything else. not a big deal to me about the speedo. My gps tells me my speed.
