no no guys,
read the vortex forum, that is the whole breakthrough in my research. Acme adapters already makes kits for sidekicks to mate the TDI into them. they claim to have an adapter for any model of samurai and sidekick and even some toyota. well i found out that ~1996 4 door sidekick was actually using the same transmission as i have in the raider, it is called by many names but it is a toyota transmission model A44D, sidekick uses a A44DE(electronic control), where is raider uses the A44D(regular) and there is also A44DL that is with lock up feature. long story short, i talked to one of the guys at Acme and he told me the price and that if my research is true and i can use the adapter that is meant for a sidekick then i'm in the clear. So that is why i am asking up on top if anyone can tripple confirm this finding.
the only problem now is that there are no other mechanical bits to help me out, like motor mount adapters and so on, so it will take some welding and fabricating but it is mostly work not money, the adapter is the main chunk that some people pay 3K to get a custom one, where is this one will cost me 600-800 with the shipping.leaving some mulas for

I remember these guys doing it to a sammuri http://www.powerblocktv.com/sites/xtreme/episodes/index.php?ep_num=XT2008-03&ep_sea=0801 They made it bio desil witch aint very cheap to do and have you seen the price of desil

Free vegi oil is cheap. The rerun of that episode with that swap was on last week or the week before. They said they got a TDI VW for $1000 plus the adaptor plus the kit to run vegi oil is not too bad of a price. That is one awesome Sammi.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

The vegi oil has to be cleaned they didnt say that part and that kind of set up to clean the oil is going to cost money. They also sometimes have a 10,000 budget and things they say are cheap sometimes arent cheap to us.

They said the entire build which was much more than a diesel conversion, including purchase price, was just over 6k.

Some kind of filter cant be that expensive. That big machine "kit" they sell to make bio diesel with all the pumps and such is a few thousand. They just need to filter used oil. You can make some gravity feed filter for way cheap.

The Aisin Warner A44Dx line of trannies usually has interchangeable bellhousings. Try buying bellhousing gaskets for each and compare. I'd go for one of the A44DL slushboxes to get the lockup converter. It saves about 300rpms at 3000rpm cruise, in theory at least, thats about 10% fuel savings. I also bet you can find in Aus. or Japan a heavier duty diesel converter with lockup.

This would mean all you need is the bellhousing for the motor to bolt on either your tranny or the lockup box you source. If the internal splines are right in the 1.9 converter, that would also work and be sure to fit the flexplate and bellhousing.

Pretty nifty idea. I'm off the read the other thread.

What are the hp and torque #'s for the 1.9? I think the 3.0 is about 150hp and 175ftlbs of torque, but torque is a guess.

The biodiesel machines I've seen use veggie oil and lye (IIRC) and yield biodiesel and glycerin and solid filtrate. Simple filters don't yank out the glycerin, just the solid crud. That's why the machines are expensive. They are mini chem factories.

Welcome to the wire! Glad Charlie sent you this way as well. Didn't know he's on the 'tex. I'm there occasionally.

"Charlie Belew" here..."belewmoon" on Vortex & TDIClub. I have a '04 VW Jetta TDI...bought the TDI early last year & diesel was actually cheaper than unleaded regular at one point but NOT anymore! Over $4/gal now!! At least I'm getting 50 miles/expensive gallon...

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Interesting thread. I picked up a '90 VW Jetta 1.9 IDI turbo with the intent of stuffing the engine in a lil 4x4. I took a 2.3l diesel from a Ford Ranger and transplanted it my 89 D50 last winter and I love it.
There arent too many Raiders in this country, but when I get my hands on one, the swap will start. Or I may find another D50.
A fellow here used Acme adapters kit to put a 1.6 in his 1991 Chevy Tracker 2 yrs ago and has it up for sale $6500.00
A lil high I thought. Says it works great, but needs a minivan now.

I would really love to see this build, but seriously you can import (to Canada) a diesel Gen1 Pajero for well under 5 grand if you do the importing yourself. I paid a little more than that for my Gen2, all fees, taxes and shipping included, and I used a broker!

I see a few here starting at 10,000 yen!

I first found the "TDI Swap" topic when looking for 1989 V6 Raiders For Sale. I wondered how long it would take for the topic to make it here. The world of Raiders is not that big.

Welcome to the club.
