well thanks, i did come across several very usefull forums posts. but G-Raider takes the cake, over 100 pages, wow.

as much as i love the mits V6(i had it in my old 1989 dodge caravan) i am more glued to diesel engine ever cince i knew what it meant. you ask enough questions for me to write a full documentary. it will really help the big picture if you get a chance to read through the other forum, as i touched on several of these questions.

many things came into play, i owned a passat VR6 and used the vortex more than anything back in those engine rebuilding days. So i heard a lot about the reputible TDI, more than any other diesel, aside from being effective and efficient diesel this engine is more than plentifull around here(eastern canada/north america), including parts support (the other numerous alternatives are the massive GM 6.2L and that lineup, the third place would be probably the mercedes, the rest are quite rare). Fuel Efficiency, Low swap budget, fascination with biodiesel, and the ease and accessibility of parts for cervice after the swap are all the major reasons for me going this rout. Really it started as a question, but you're right to point out that no one has done this, so no one could answer my questions, which made me want to dig even deeper, and like an onion it slowly revealed itself bit by bit.

about my raider, the truth is that it was too cold to work on it, but lately it wormed up and i had a chance to bring it to driving condition, will be probably used soon as a daily driver and then will see the efficiency. But i know they are not that efficient based on other people's accounts. There is still some work to be done on it but nothing that can't be handled right away.

oh yes, check one of my last posts, i was talking of budget. 7K is unthinkable for me, i am not looking for bling or to bring a mountain to it's knees, just want a diesel high mpg jeep. i estimated my whole project might cost me around $3500, including the jeep buying cost. So you can see why i am going for it. But even 3.5 is a bit much for me, so i feed my dream with research and building up repair manuals database for now.
preparation ahead will save me time down the road.

technical things have a way of coming out. I remember when i was rebuilding the VR6, some days i would just be at a loss and the project would stall. the next day i pick on some stupid bolt and the day after the project is running again, you can't rush mother nature i guess.
