Hi Guys!
Been here for awhile but on another part of the forums. I'm thinking of trading in my current ride for a newer Jeep, since I want to use it as a DD and on the trails on the weekends I was thinking of the new 08' Wrangler, mainly because it will be a DD 90% of the time.
Since I want to build it up slowly I was thinking of getting the base X model and starting from there.
How easy is it to use the base model as a starting platform, or should I look at getting a Rubi or Sahara? and starting from there. I like the spartan look of the X model and it looks like it allows for alot of room to build on!
Comments. suggestions are welcome.

The Rubicon has so many advanced offroad features I wouldn't leave home without one! Rather than an NEW lower model, if I couldn't afford a new Rubicon, I'd for sure rather have a USED Rubicon! There is just too much money and time to spend to get equal to the features of a Rubicon... Big Jim

i agree with BJ with one thing to add, If you can find one with the 4.0 liter i6 grab it. the v6 is weaker than the 4.0. also if you are super lucky maybe you can find a rubicon sahara edition(very limeted). a customer at the shop has one and I already called first dibs on it (he don't keep cars very long)
The features BJ is speaking of is dana 44 differentials front and rear, saturn(I think) transfer case with lowere ratio. they should have goodyear mt/r's on them and already the equivelant hight of a regular jeep with 3 inch lift(approx) to give you an idea i recently seen one at a dealer with the warn winch, bumper with 2 4 inch lights on the rear, tow setup, and recovery points. it had the 4.0 with 30k miles all for $19,000. the onlt things that stopped me from buying was I hated the color,it was an automatic and money is a bit tight now.
out of all the jeeps in this town the d**n gremlin had to invade mine
I've done so much, with so little for so long i can practicly do anything with nothing

Color smolor! I didn't know that jeep made a rubi/sahara edition. If it had all that and there that rare, (unless pink) color smolor. That setup sounded sweet, stock, from the factory.

no the rubicon sahara edition was made in 2006 i think it was green and only 1000 made. the rubicon I seen was silver with an auto tranny. I don't like silver it is way too common up here in jersey.Automatics, while great in stop and go traffic ,is not what i am looking for either. but the big stop in that was tight in the wallet now. I like to flow different than everyone else lol. I am not sure if the stuff was factory, but it dit fit the jeep perfect so possibly it was. or mopar performance made it for add ons.

Forgot the auto deal, that would throw me off too. The wallet thing would as well. I am now a proud owner of a house, as of today. So the wallet thing just set my money pit back a bit and I own it. Just cannot afford to modify now. Stuck Like Chuck!

Iron,
I bought the "X" wrangler with Freedom top and have no regrets. As for the warranty $1,500 gets you a 7 year 70K bumper to bumper including every componet except brake pads, clutch plate, muffler and headlight bulbs.Includes free oil changes and inspection at the dealer for 5 years so not a bad deal. This was on the 07, the 08 have a limited lifetime drivetrain.I've already had a cracked windshiled and weepy rear glass seal replaced under warranty. I paid $16,500 for last years model "X" instead of the 30K they're asking for the 08 Rubi. So far only mod I've done is install an Old Man Emu 3" lift and nitro shocks. Heres a copy of the build sheet Chrysler sent me.
Thank you for contacting the Chrysler Customer Assistance Center regarding the build sheet of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler.

Seatilegti Hit the nail right on the head, A new 08' or 07' are cheaper up here than 2 or 3 years old TJ's, and since it will be a DD 90% of the time the 7 year warranty is a very attractive option, but not as attractive as the $18,000 price tag.
