Getting the Wheeling Fever
Howdy! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />
Been lurking for the past 2-3 weeks. Just bought an 88 Raider off of an auction site.
I live in Florida (Tampa area)... car was in NY (Long Island). Drove it home yesterday.

So 1204 Miles and 18.5 hours later. It's here.

Here's a collage from the auction listing. I'll post a couple more pics when I get done cleaning it up.

Ran like a champ. (carb needs replaced or rebuilt).
Got approx 20+/- mpg at an average speed of 73-75 MPH on the long stretches.

She cranked right along at 80+ when I wasn't paying attention.

Welcome to the Wire! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Nice rig and clean looking too...it must not have lived too much of it's life up in New York...seems like it has zero rust.

Thanks for the welcome.
Not much rust at all...appears to have light amounts in the usual places. Bumpers...some under the carpet above the wheel well... Probably some in other areas that I haven't noticed. Seems to be the original paint (light blue metallic. Interior is in better than expected shape. (dark blue)
Originally a Texas vehicle (Carfax) and looks to have had undercoating.
Needs very little...but this will be a tailgating / fishing vehicle so I'm not too worried about the little stuff.

It'll smell of BBQ and salt water in no time. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

20mpg on a 4banger, that is pretty good. Welcome.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

That's what I was gonna say. Both that, and your highway performance, make me wonder why you believe the carb needs to be rebuilt. That mileage is about the best you'll get.

Welcome aboard! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Welcome to the board. Looks nice, keep it fine tuned and your millage will be around that.

Is it AT or MT?

Thanks again...
The reason I say that about the carb is there is quite a bit of hesitation...especially after doing some in town driving yesterday. I'm sure the mileage will go way down for the local stuff. I haven't really been under the hood so... I'll do some knocking around and see what's what.

The previous owner was planning on replacing the Mikuni with a Weber. He also gave me a brand new ceramic coated header. Repair manuals (1989) and a Hayes manual.

By the way.. I just want to say that this place is one hell of a resource. I've picked up quite a bit of info by doing a lot of reading. I've used the search function quite a bit as well. Still looking for a couple answers...if i don't find them...I'll be sure to ask.

Javy,
Yeah I like Tampa...but wi$h I could live around the beache$ in Pinellas.
We have one more kiddo to get through high school and on his way in life (he'll be driving this to and from school this fall) and then we'll look nearer the Gulf.

EDIT.
It's a MT
