Try giving the carb a really good cleaning and see if that helps.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Hesitation on my 2.6 caused me to find a bad head/gasket. At the same milage, too... I hope it's not the same for you, but once you replace the head and gasket, if it's needed, she'll be good to you for many miles! Is that blue or silver?

Welcome to the board. I hope you fall in love with the truck as we have ours and stay around for a while!

Come to think of it, my head gasket blew around that same mileage too.

Hesitation is usually wrong timing or busted accel pump diaphragm in the carb, or blocked accel fuel passages. Take off the whole air cleaner, and while manually holding open the choke, look for a steady stream of fuel from accel jets in carb bore when you manually open the throttle wide open with the linkage. May also have worn and hanging centrif advance weights in the distributor.

Have good accel at higher engine speeds? Many of these carbs have a bad secondary throttle vac can enabler, and the second carb barrel won't open. If you have this, post back and we'll tell you how to test.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I'm new here too (89 Monty Sport), there is an 88 Monty in junkyard new here I am attempting to get-4 banger with 123k. Engine problems----maybe head? Man said he thinks the problem was in the bottom end?

I drove the monty 109 miles home, probably 90 of that was 65 or 70 on interstate and I only got 16 1/2 MPG with V6 and 5 speed, but I did put about 80 more miles local before I filled up and checked it.

To answer some questions...
The color is a light blue metallic (only one I've seen so far). Seems to be a common color among the Dodge imports of that era (Colt etc.)

Yeah... crossing fingers that it's carb related. I was able to find a Mikuni / Chrysler students reference manual from around that time and am reading up on the carburetor and the functions of the different components. There are a couple troubleshooting tips in there as well as the ones that you all have posted.

Traveling this week...so I'm studying up on the carb and checking the board when I can.

The previous owner also threw in a brand new ceramic coated header that he was going to install. He also planned on doing the Weber conversion.

There's alot to digest here and I'm glad that I have this resource available.

Is that Weber carb that much better...and would I need to do that in order to use the header?? He made it sound like I would.

Hey Jim,
Welcome to the board. That Raider looks at home by the water.
I'm in Apopka. I get to go watch some Buc games when my wife's niece invites us. She's one of the biggest Buc fans I know. I'm a Jets fan but I root for the Buccaneers as long as they don't play the Jets lol. I kid her and call them the Jetaneers since so many ex-Jets are on the team.
Do you live in Tampa or outside Tampa. She lives in Val Rico.
