We used to have old cars come into the shop that hadn't run for a year or more. We never put new gas in the tank before starting. I can only thnk of one that it became a problem on, and that was because they'd left the gas cap off and all the fuel evaporated. The only thing that kept it from starting was the total lack of fuel.
