I'm on the registry. All 3 of my phone numbers are listed there.

I continually get calls to lower my interest rate (we rent) or buy a new warranty for my car

I've reported it to the FTC, via the do not call registry, and get nothing.

I tried to ask the guy for his name, supervisor's name and company name. His response was to hang up.

The number (this time) is 561-482-7092, and comes up disconnected when I call it back.

Does anyone else think the do not call registry is useless?

I occasionally get spam email messages to my cell phone (got one Saturday), yet I'm registered on the do not call registry.

When I still had a land line in my house (over 5 years ago) I got a constant barrage of solicitation calls...far far more than calls from family, friends, and work combined. That was one of the main reasons I decided to do away with a land line altogether. I know some folks feel they can't do away with theirs for one reason or another, but I'm glad I nixed mine. Saves money too.

In the 10 years that I've been with my current cell company (yes, same company for 10 years straight), and in the 14 years that I've had cell phones, I've knowingly received only one sales call during that time. Prior to about 6 months ago, I'd never received any commercial text messages or email to my phone. In the last few months, I've received about a half-dozen.

We've been getting warranty calls on our phones.

They say your car is under warranty, then they ask for the VIN...

How stupid do these pig f rs think we are?

I only use cell phones and I've never bothered to register. So far, I've never gotten a single unsolicited call.

I sometimes wonder if the Do not call list is really nothing more than another phone list for bad guys to locate good numbers from.

After all, if they get the list and then call from another country, what exactly is the feds suppose to do about it? And even if they do call locally, its like ID theft...its so prevelent, that they don't have time to prosecute, unless the offense gets into some seriously high numbers.

There not interested in your particular problem. Keep filing the reports because they have X amount of resources and will go after the top offenders. I'm sure they get thousands if not millions of complaints per day.

They should let IT guys like myself help write the laws. I would have a *69 feature that automaticly reports the number as DNCR violator. Once you get X number of reports your line get put on incoming and 911 only status

Not reading any more posts. I was wondering the same thing when the list thing came out. A friend told me to list, but I thought not to.

We have had the "do not call" registry in OZ for a while now, and still have troublesome companies that get around the laws.

Check the difference between "Market research" and "telemarketing".

Check the minimum size of the marketing company needed to comply with the laws. In Oz the tendancy is to "divide and conquer". Once a company gets to 30 ppl (our max size before compulsory adherence to the laws) they split in two, so they are always able to operate outside the federal legislation.

Religious groups, political parties, registered pollsters, and charities are all excluded over here.

Sum total of the legislation - not one prosecution in 2 years, same amount of telemarketing calls etc..............but the politician's were SEEN to be doing something
