I was looking at my v6 in my '91. I noticed I have an Air pump....i don't know what this is doing here? So I looked in my haynes (useless) manual, (anyone know if a bently is available for this truck?) and looked at the whole air pump system and saw that it is essentially taking air from my TBI and putting it straight into my Exhaust?

So I say: "Steal air from my engine will you? I'll rip you out you useless peice of junk." Then I says to myself: "Self, be rational. Ask the guys on Isuzu forum. They'll know."

So here I ask. Does anyone really know what the air pump does other than steal air from my TBI? v6 in 91 trooper.

Cheers

Well...it allows your catalytic converter to work correctly.

And...it is illegal to remove it, regardless if you have emissions testing in your area or not.

So...because that is one of the few "rules" we have around here (discussing illegal activities) this discussion should be considered done.

I will say, it does not "steal" air from your engine and in the end, it does not really take much "power" to run as it usually only operates during start up and at WOT.

Good Luck,
Michael

I disconnected the one on my '84 pup when I had it. Would hook it back up for emissions inspections. There was very little gain in disconnecting it. Since I live at 5500 ft elevation and frequently go over 12k ft passes in the mountains every tiny bit helps (especially with that very under powered 4 cyl). But if you dont live at high elevation I doubt you would notice any difference in power so no point in messing with it.

Well thanks. Sorry about the illegal thing. Didn't know.
Feel free to delete this post then at any time Micheal if it runs contrary to the guidlines.

Thanks for the info all the same.
