I disconnected the one on my '84 pup when I had it. Would hook it back up for emissions inspections. There was very little gain in disconnecting it. Since I live at 5500 ft elevation and frequently go over 12k ft passes in the mountains every tiny bit helps (especially with that very under powered 4 cyl). But if you dont live at high elevation I doubt you would notice any difference in power so no point in messing with it.
