I have a 1994 Toyota pickup IFS truck.

I have purchased a new set of Super Swamper 34 x 9.50 15ö, I mounted one on what I believe to be an old vintage early 80Æs Factory Toyota SR5 chrome rim with what looks like a 3ö Back Space. When mounted on the front it only rubs on the rear center of the fender well during a turn. I believe that I will try a 3ö body lift from 4crawler and the 1.5ö ball joint spacers to clear them. My question is this.

What do you guys think would be the best rim back space to use? I am planning on buying a new set of rims so what should I get? Thanks in advance for all the help.

Yes I did look at 4crawlers web site where He said to use the factory rims for the 33Æs. What are the factory rims? 15öx7 with what back space?

One other thing, I assume the way to measure back space is with a straight edge along the back of the rim and measure to the face of the mounting surface of the rim?

15x6 or 15x7 w/ 4-3/4" backspace:



And for the 34x9.50 get as narrow a rim as you can. No wider than 6", 5" or 5.5" is even better. Put those tires on any wider rim and you'll lose beads left and right when aired down.

Mickey Thompson rims are very nice if you want aluminum.

If you want steel, go for some 15x8 "rockcrawlers"
factory toyota rims would look nice too if you can find some, landcruiser rims or newer 4runner/tacoma rims... backspacing is pretty deep tho... you could always run spacers if necessary.

That tire will compliment the OEM aluminum wheel... http://craigslist.com will have 'em.

W/the 3" body lift and 1.5" spacers you should be able to run as little as a 2" backspacing. SInce you opted for a skinny tire, you should move it as far out as you can to lower your center of gravity. The general rule of thumb is for every 1" you raise the vehicle you need to widen its track width by 1.5". You are looking at raising the rig 7.5"(if starting w/stock height of 28"), so in theory you need to widen the stance by 11.25", or move each tire out about 5.5". Since you are going w/a 9.50 you should consider going w/a 2-2.5" BS rim. Factory BS on IFS is 4.75" so if you go w/a 2" BS rim you will gain 5.5" from the rims themselves. Most of the national tires shops will mount up some different BS rims for you so you can see how they clear.

So 4xcrawler.....you say the 4.75" back space on say a 15x6 rim will give me the best clearance? Any recommendations on maunfacturer? I am looking for a cheaper rim...not too flashy.

With the lift I have planed if I do go with less back space...say 2.5"...to get a wider stance will I get some rubbing? I would like complete clearance if possible.

Get some stock rims, junkyard or used wheel/tire shop if you have one locally. Or I know a guy who ran similar tires on his old pickup with some 5.5" wide Chevy rims. You'll need less lift to clear the tires the closer you keep them into the frame, but the wider out you go the more stable the truck will be.

ON my '91, I am running 35x12.50's on 15xz10's w/2.5" BS and a suspension lift of 2" 4Crawler BL, 1.5" BJ Spacers, 2" cut out of the fenders, and the use of a BFH to the body seam and fire wall. The track width is 73"(tread shoulder to tread shoulder. There is just a little rubbing at full lock under full compression, but not enough to damage the tires or the body.

Since the tires just barely rub now w/any lift, you should be able run 15x6"-15x8" rims w/2" BS and not have any clearance issues. I would start with the BL and the rims you currently have and go from there. It is unlikely that the BJ spacer will give you enough clearance by itself, even w/inner fender mods.

Thanks for the help guys. A local shop has a set of pro-comp steel wheels 15x7 with 3.75" back space for $205 (tax included). What do ya think?
