You only burn your reserves when every else it tapped out So... In the mean time, we allow ourselves to be held hostage by OPEC - countries that HATE us - and spend all of our money investing in "alternative fuels" that thus far, have done nothing more than double (or more) the cost of many food items? Allowing other countries to kill our economy over some idea of "pride" isn't what I call smart... or

Ive been paying $4.29 to $4.50 a gallon for diesel in New Mexico and $3.55 a gallon for gas. Ive always thought diesel was cheaper to make. Biodiesel here I come!

We double our food prices and American's hardly blink. People in poor countries are starving because of grain diverted to bio-diesel production. Of course of lot of poor countries starve their people to get cash from the IMF
Every day when I'm driving to work I see only one person per 3000 lb car or 4500 lb SUV. Any way you slice it, the economics and physics of using 4500 lbs to move a 180 lb person to and from work is wasteful. I should know I have a 96 Land Cruiser
I plan on getting a Smart car or other toy car even for my 5 mile commute. I'm sure the car companies have plans for more 60 MPG cars in the works. Heck I'll settle for a old Subaru Justy 3 cylinder AWD

Being on a fixed income, fuel prices have really put a damper on my travels. But a friend of mine sent me an E-mail that stated things could be worst.
Hard not to complain about the price of gasoline, but just read this.
All these examples do NOT imply that gasoline is cheap; they just illustrates how outrageous some prices are.... You will be really shocked by the last one!!!! (At least, I was...)
Compared with Gasoline......
Think a gallon of gas is expensive?
This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.
Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 .. $10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ..........$9.52 per gallon Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ..... $10.17 per gallon Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ........ $10.00 per gallon
Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ........ $33.60 per gallon Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 . $178.13 per gallon
Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 ... $123.20 per gallon
Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 . $25.42 per gallon Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .$84.48 per gallon
And this is the REAL KICKER...
Evian water 9 oz $1.49..........$21.19 per gallon!
$21.19 for WATER and the buyers don't even know the source. (Evian spelled back-wards is Naive.)
Ever wonder why computer printers are so cheap? So they have you hooked for the ink. Someone calculated the cost of the ink at................ you won't believe it...................
but it is true......................... $5,200 a gal.. (five thousand two hundred dollars)
So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, Pepto Bismol, Nyquil or God forbid, Printer Ink!!!!!
I guess the Gas guy's are not as bad as they seem.

I still believe the post Katrina price hike was a test to see if Americans would pay $3+ per gallon. Once everybody did, I believe it was easy for the suppliers to justify charge more. I'm just glad I live in a small town with a short commute.... Unfortunately it is a combination of China and India's demands as well as speculators that is pushing fuel prices up. It is figured that $20-$30 a barrel is due to speculation. The rest of the rise is due to increased demand world over with most of that coming from China and India.
