It looks like you have the limited-slip differential (LSD) rear axle, based upon the presence of headlight washers. What you're feeling is the engaging LSD controlling the wheel spin. If you stomp on the gas, both rear wheels will get power. I can lay about 1 foot of rubber with my 87 Raider 4-cyl. !! I would advise changing the fluids, making sure to add the traction additive to the rear axle. You'll soon grow use to the feeling of turning with the short wheel base and the LSD action.
