Correct, The repair kit that the number I provided gives a gasket for under the nut as well as a cap that threads over the top of the nut to seal what will creep up the threads. The box is under some pressure, basically the return pressure back to the reservoir.

I just RTV'ed the jam nut threads and underside and mine sealed up. the return pressure back to the reservoir. So I could kill all PS box leaks with a "dry sump" pump and de-aerator in the return line?

So I could kill all PS box leaks with a "dry sump" pump and de-aerator in the return line? I found it interesting a number of years ago I replumbed under the hood of one of my Starions. The steering pipes went all over the place and the return pipe was routed in a much simpler route accross the front of the car using 1/2" aluminum rather than the 12mm steel. The reduction in pressure was enough that the steering became finger tip light. This is a cr that spent most of its time with 245 size slicks up front. I commonly drove without my nomex gloves on because it was so light.
