Weird starting/running issue 22RE #883293 04/29/08 01:51 PM

Hey everyone, I kind of have a problem with my truck. When I used to start the truck for the first time in the morning, it would fire right up, and (i think) be running on 3 cylinders for about 30 seconds, and then smooth out. After the initial starting of the truck for that day, it would always fire up running smooth. Well, I went on vacation for a month, and when I came back, my truck became a little harder to start, it takes a little bit of cranking to catch, and when it does, it feels like it's running on about 2 cylinders! But after a minute, it'll smooth out. But when I park to get gas or something, then try to start my truck again (with engine warm) it takes A LOT of cranking for the engine to catch, and the same thing, runs on 2 or 3 cylinders... but after that everythings fine.

Spark plugs, wires and rotor were replaced about 6 months ago because of the original 'problem,' although it never fixed it. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for any help!
-Nick

Edit: But my truck still manages 25mpg, so I dont' complain that much.

Might try the fuel pump test jumper to see if that helps:

And maybe check the fuel injector wire splices, several threads on that subject on this forum over the last few years. Might have a loose connection in one of the splices that is causing the running on 2 or 3 cylinders.

Oh yea, I've had the fuel pump jumper in for awhile now.. the pump always turns on. I forgot to mention that when it's cranking, you can definatly smell fuel, so I'm pretty sure it's getting it.. but I'll check the splices later today. Thanks

Have you checked cold start injector? Should not be fuel pump, wires and plugs if she runs smoothly with hot engine.

good luck! keep us posted! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Not really sure if it's the cold start injector.. how does one go about checking it? I know where it is, but have no clue if it's working. Also, would that cause the engine to run on 3cyl for about 30 seconds? Thanks.
