New starting problem.
Battery is new but when I try and start the engine the starter turns very slow like the battery is almost dead. My wife is not thrilled with the idea of pushing me to start the motor. Is this the starter or could it be something else?

Check the voltage across the battery terminals. If the battery has been installed for a few days and the engine has been running for a few hours, the battery should be fully charged and should show at least 12.5v. If not, remove, inspect, clean and tighten all battery connections, including the engine and frame grounds and the starter connections. If any cables show corrosion or frayed wires, replace them. Pay particular attention to the ground wire that connects to the inner fender on the passenger side.

If the wiring is ok, but battery voltage is low, the alternator is likely bad..... you can have it tested at most auto parts stores.

If the wiring and battery voltage are ok, the problem is likely in the starter motor.

You mean bushings <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />.Check the the battery with a meter running it should be around 14volts charging then turn the car off it should be around 12.5, if it just keeps droping then battery is no good if its not charging higher then 12 volts when running then the alternator is probaly on its way out. Then again its possible you bought a defective starter.

A starter has both. Follow Frank's advice in order.

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...
