Hey Tycer, I'm not sure if it would be the same problem or not, but yours is the first explanation I've hear of the "exact" problem I have been experiencing. I am not having any "problems" with my 2003 Jeep Liberty Ltd., aside from the loud "whining" noise when I coast in drive (automtatic) from about 50 mph on down. If I touch the gas, the sound goes away immediately - it's only when coasting. The pitch changes w/ the speed, but is always there. It always had this sound, but is louder as it gets older - now 80,000 miles. Of course, when it was under warranty, I was told "nothing sounds abnormal", but I've never heard this sound from another Jeep, 4-wheel drive or not. Did you fix your problem? Thanks.
