Just an FYI, you do have the correct number of digits in your VIN. Mine is JT4RN70D7G0022xxx. From the factory, it's a 2wd automatic, 22R (carb) motor, extra cab, longbed, deluxe model. Just a bit different now though

Thanks for the info. Mine and yours match up very close. All the right characters in all the right places. I planned on loading my copy of EPC tonight to try it out, but I am exhausted, and not in a "work on my truck, get happy" sort of exhausted. Thanks for responding. I feel better about my number seeing yours. I think the parts guy may be sniffing too many Toyota-brand brake cleaning chemicals.

Your carfax query:
VIN JT4RN63AXJ0205777 Year/Make/Model: 1988 TOYOTA SHORT BED Body Style: PICKUP Engine Type: 2.4L L4 2BL Manufactured In: JAPAN Search Results: 12 records found in our database
You will also find the VIN on the pax side frame, aft part of the front wheel well.

Thanks, Kewlynx. I am still curious why the dealer gets false information on the same query in EPC. Oh well. Let's move on. I appreciate everyones input and hopefully this helped someone other than me as well.
Now, on to that front suspension overhaul...Yeah!
