Check the connector and wiring at the AFM, I had similar problems a year or two ago and it turned out to be a loose connection in the AFM wiring (found that when I got the AFM/CEL code). I suspect it was a certain engine RPM and vibration that caused the connection to open up and make the engine cut in and out. Fixed the connection and all is fine now.
