So I think my whole vibration issue is axle wrap. Like I described in another thread: off the gas no issue, on thegas on take off and wiggle, ont he gas at speed you get an odd shift in the drivetrain. Brake hard and frontend wants to keep going.

Options:
1. have shops do it (see below).
2. Replace whole spring pack, possibly order from supplier through my shop or use a tundra one.
3. Add a 3 leaf add aleaf set..maybe it helps?
Called a few shops:

One shop quoted me about 450 to re-arch or about 850 for new. THey said in rearch they would replace all my clamps and bushings.

Another shop says they dont believe in re-arch as the springs will just come down again. What the 2nd shop said was to add an extra leaf in the pack and thats it. They said about 400 as well.

I suppose I could order a set of leaf springs with everything for 500 made by deaver for the tundra from wheelers offroad: http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/tundraleafsprings.htm

Or I could use the wheelers branded 3 leaf pack for 150. They dont seem to sell the deaver pack anymore. Either way, i need to do something here.

What I will be adding either way are some hellwig performance traction springs. Which are these: http://www.jcwhitney.com/HELLWIG-PE...N_111+1996+200729293+600003409_10101.jcw I feel that they will definitely help in the long run.

FYI pictures of the springs:

I don't know what this is worth, but mine don't look any better. Either both our springs are fine or they both have the same problem.

I took a glance at the FSM too and a lot of the drawings show the bottom leaf nearly flat.

I looked this stuff up at 1sttoyotaparts. You would spend a $1000 there getting complete springs from there and $250 just getting the lower leafs.

If the springs are in OK shape, what is the possibility that the shackle bushings are worn? There are 6 of these and they are in the $3 range.

400? damn, i got quoted $250 and they said they would re use teh main leaf and make the other ones all new.
Or, you can get a traction bar.

Those springs look pretty normal from what I remember of my stockers.

Do you have a video camera? You could strap it to the frame under the truck pointed at the axle and then drive in the situations where the problem occurs, and then verify if the axle wrap is indeed the cause. I've thought of doing this myself, but never gotten around to it.

I took video, it is upside down unfortunately, but viewable. You can clearly hear when I am on the gas-it co-insides with the pinion angle changing noticably.

The first few mins is me backing out my drive way, onto the road and taking off. Then me driving down the road, slowing to turn, then me getting out to make sure the cam is still there, then driving, slowing down to turn onto the main road, then turning off onto another main road. Then slowing up and getting on and off the gas.

During the getting on and off the gas you can clearly see the pinion moving ALOT. Then I pull onto a side road and drive a bit more and thats when the camera ran out of space.

The video is 40mb, I really appreciate anyone who can take a chance to view it. But imho it is axle wrap and I think I need the rear leafs at least re-arched and to add that special hellwig spring thing in there.

No doubt. It is pretty clear in the video.

One thing is for certain-this axle wrap issue has caused me to have an out of balance driveshaft, need a new carrier bearing and a new tranny mount b/c it made them wear out quick.

Sadly I didnt realize it sooner b/c if your the one to always drive the truck and its always been that way you dont notice to much.

So I called a shop my boss recommended. They want about 550 to totally redo all the springs, new bushings, u bolts, add a leaf in to stabilize, center pins and such. They arent the cheapest, but they are the closest and the guy on the phone seemed the most knowledgeable.

I wish I could get it done for less than 500, but every shop so far has been right around that figure. I would just simply replace everything myself, but I dont have to deal with the aggravation of removing it and making new stuff fit. Plus its guranteed.

Not sure where to go to get them, but ever look into a set of ladder bars or the like? That will stop the rotation issue. Looks like your springs do not move a lot in the vertical so they may be ok for normal driving. If you find something, post it. May be good for all of us.

I thought about a ladder bar or traction bars, but it would have to be a one off thing. Or use a universal sold by jc whitnet

What I did find was some hellwig anti-traction helper kinda springs: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/...1/N-111+1996+200729293+600003426/c-10101

I am gonna add them after I get the springs done since them simply bolt on. Dunno when I can get the springs done now anyways. I had an appt for this past friday, but weds I got into a major car accident and was in the hospital (I'm ok, I fainted while driving). So I cant drive till they clear me. Ill report back when I can.
